Greeting from the great outdoors! I’m here to tell you that your sore pectoralis major – the chest muscle that connects between your sternum and shoulder on each side of your body – can be soothed and relieved with a few simple stretching and yoga exercises. As an experienced naturalist, I have a lot of experience with finding natural remedies for all sorts of aches and pains, and this particular problem is no exception!
My recipe for you starts by taking the right steps to stretch and open up that chest muscle. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms raised at your sides. Then, reach out with both hands across your body, and clasp them together. With your hands clasped, bend your elbows as you lean your torso to the left, keeping your chin up and your right arm straight. As you do this, you should feel your right pec pushing against your hands. Hold this position for five to ten deep breaths. When you complete the hold, release and repeat on the other side. This completes one full repetition. Perform this move six to eight times for the best results.
Of course, there are many other superb yoga exercises for this muscle group. As I’ve been stretching and performing yoga poses on my own today, I’ve found poses like the cow face, the reclined cactus, and the eagle pose to be especially helpful for this particular muscle group. But if you’d rather not take up yoga, no worries! You can also find relief with other natural remedies.
Soaking in an Epsom salt bath can be beneficial for relieving soreness and inflammation in this area. Simply fill your bathtub with warm water and add two cups of Epsom salt before soaking for about 20 minutes or more. You can also make an essential oil massage blend with 20 drops of lavender oil, 15 drops of chamomile oil, four ounces of sweet almond oil, and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Rub this blend into your chest area for a relaxing and restorative massage.
Natural relief from pain can be found in a variety of ways, from yoga to essential oils. Here’s wishing you luck in finding the remedy that works best for your sore pectoralis major – happy stretching and yoga-ing!
